Volunteers to build edible community garden for local homeless shelter

WHAT:  On Saturday, April 15, employees from OUC – The Reliable One -, Orlando City SC and the Orlando Pride will gather at the Orlando Union Rescue Mission to build a 35-bed community garden in honor of Earth Month. Volunteers will rake, mulch and plant the garden that will be used and harvested by the shelter kitchen to feed the residents.

Located in OUC’s Empowerment Zone, the Orlando Union Rescue Mission is one of Central Florida’s oldest and largest homeless service providers – providing residents with immediate needs including food, clothing and shelter. Like OUC, they are celebrating a monumental anniversary in 2023 with 75 years of service to the Orlando community. OUC's partnership will extend beyond a volunteer project. As an OUC Customer, the Orlando Union Rescue Mission’s six facilities will be audited for future water and energy efficiency upgrades.

WHEN: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023

WHERE: Orlando Union Rescue Mission – Project Hope, 3300 W. Colonial Drive., Orlando, Fla. 32808
