How Does it Help?
Reduces Energy Costs
Some materials can extend the lifespan of the roof by reducing thermal expansion and contraction.
Extends Roof Lifespan
Lower roof temperatures help reduce damages over time.
Indoor Comfort
Helps maintain indoor temperatures by absorbing less heat.
Before You Get Started
Cool roofs are a great energy-saving solution for commercial buildings. There are 2 basic roof types: sloped and low-sloped (or flat). A low-sloped roof is a roof with a pitch that is less than or equal to 2:12 (9.5 degrees from horizontal). Common cool roof materials include membranes, shingles, coatings, stone/rock, metal, as well as tile.
- Learn more about roof types and product types from the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) and energy.gov.
- Choose which material you’d like for your cool roof, ensuring the solar reflectance value is 0.7 or greater.
- Consult with a professional to conduct measurements and assist with installation.
