For the second consecutive year, OUC–The Reliable One delivered the highest electric reliability in the state, according to reports published this spring based on 2025 data submitted to the Florida Public Service Commission by investor-owned utilities.

On June 4, 2026, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued emergency DOE Order No. 202-26-26, pursuant to section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act, to the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC). The order directs OUC to ensure that Unit 1 at the Stanton Energy Center (Stanton) in Orlando, Florida remains available to operate. This order is in effect beginning on June 4, 2026 through September 1, 2026.

Today, OUC—The Reliable One began a series of prescribed burns at the Stanton Energy Center. These prescribed burns help reduce brush and vegetation buildup that can fuel wildfires.

Linda Landman González has been elected as president of the Orlando Utilities Commission’s Board of Commissioner. Additionally, Phillip N. Brown and Bridget Williams, Ed.D., have been selected to serve on the board after confirmation by the City of Orlando.

Following Winter Storm Fern, an arctic blast brought record-breaking cold to the south, driving significant energy demand across Florida. OUC’s energy grid saw record usage in St. Cloud, setting a new winter peak this morning at 271 megawatts (MW), surpassing the one set just a day earlier.

With Central Florida experiencing record-breaking cold, OUC urged its customers to conserve energy during the early-morning peak hours today. Another spike is expected early Monday, between 4 to 10 a.m., and even small, targeted conservation during these hours can help ease strain on the grid and support continued reliability.
