How Does it Help?

Most solar PV customers rely on electricity from the grid to supplement their solar-generated power. A solar battery stores any surplus solar energy so it can be used at another time, even when there’s an outage in your neighborhood.

Reliable Backup Power

Energy stored can be used at night, during poor weather conditions, and even during an outage.

Lower Energy Bills

When you don’t need to rely on the grid for backup power, your electricity bill decreases.

Energy Self-Sufficiency

You keep what you generate. You don’t have to send the excess energy you generate back to the grid.

Before You Get Started

  1. In order to receive the battery storage system rebate, your system must have the following:
    • Solar PV systems must be 20 kilowatts (kW) or smaller.
    • A disconnect and automatic transfer switch.
  2. The storage system must support future Distributed Energy Resources Management System integration or utility dispatch control via communication to the system (e.g. OpenADR or other standard communications) or utility dispatch through OEM or third-party aggregator applications.
  3. Need help with installation? OUC has a trusted range of Preferred Contractors we recommend.
  4. Customers may be eligible for a separate 30% federal tax credit for systems that are solar array coupled. Visit energystar.gov for more details.

Submitting Your Rebate Application

Be prepared to provide us with the following documents:

  1. A receipt/invoice for the battery purchase.
  2. A copy of the defect warranty. The warranty must cover the system for 10 years or more.
  3. A copy of the electrical circuit one-line diagram stamped and signed by a professional engineer.
  4. A clear picture of the installed battery(s).
  5. Installer License Number (Electrical) as proof that the system has been permitted and installed by a licensed professional.
Rebate Requirements & FAQs

Requirements: All receipts/invoices must be dated and submitted within six (6) months of the date of purchase. If the battery and solar PV system were installed concurrently, the battery price must be delineated separately from that of the solar system.

Eligibility: Rebate is available to OUC residential and commercial interconnected solar customers only. The battery must be permanently installed and paired to an existing or new OUC-approved interconnected solar array. The customer must meet the insurance requirement as defined in the solar interconnection agreement. OUC reserves the right to inspect the system before or after awarding the rebate to ensure compliance with requirements.

By accepting this rebate, customers forfeit eligibility to receive the TruNet Full Retail Rate (currently 10.7¢ per kWh for residential customers) for any energy exported to OUC’s grid. Battery storage rebate recipients will be credited for energy exported to the grid at the community solar farm rate for a five-year period ending June 30, 2030, and at the retail fuel rate thereafter. Click here for more information on OUC’s TruNet rates.

Reimbursement: OUC offers a rebate of $150 for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of designed storage capacity the battery can hold, as listed on the manufacturer’s spec sheet (i.e., the nameplate capacity). Rebate amount is up to 50% of the cost of the purchase price of the battery and associated installation costs, up to a maximum amount of $2,000. Customers will receive an approval email once the application has been submitted, reviewed and approved by one of our conservation support specialists. Rebate will be applied as a credit on your OUC bill.

Exclusions: Customers who have previously received a battery incentive from OUC are not eligible. Customers are only allowed one rebate per service address
