OUC–The Reliable One has once again delivered the highest electric reliability in the state, according to 2024 data submitted to the Florida Public Service Commission by investor-owned utilities.
Shortest Average Interruption Time
OUC is 14% more reliable than the next closest finisher.
Fast Outage Restoration
OUC is 25% faster at restoring outages than the next closest finisher.
Hardening the Electric Grid
OUC’s smart grid devices prevented more than 54,000 outages last year.
Service You Can Rely On
Reliability doesn’t just mean keeping the power on. It’s about constantly improving our technology and services.

Hardening the Grid
OUC maintains 3,027 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines over its 419-square-mile electric service area. We maintain and upgrade poles, transformers and other components of the electric infrastructure to withstand extreme weather conditions.
We’re also incorporating powerful tools like smart meters, aerial drones and emerging technologies to improve the reliability of the electric system.

Expanding Our Infrastructure
OUC has several major transmission line projects underway, including a new 230 kV line to meet the growing electric demands of customers in St. Cloud and southeastern Orlando, and another connecting west St. Cloud with the newly acquired Osceola Generating Station.
Undergrounding of a transmission line along Robinson Street was completed in January 2025.

Tree Trimming & Line Clearing
Each year, OUC prunes and maintains trees and vegetation along 430 miles of overhead lines. Branches hanging, leaning or touching a wire pose safety and reliability risks and can cause power outages.

Proactive Customer Communication
Automated systems, such as OUC Alerts, keep customers informed about outages and service disruptions. The alert includes the cause, repair crew status, estimated restoration times, and any actions customers need to take should they experience a service disruption.

About the Florida Public Service Commission

The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) ensures that Florida’s consumers receive some of their most essential services—electric, natural gas, telephone, water and wastewater—in a safe, reasonable and reliable manner.
Florida PSC rated OUC’s electric service as more reliable than other investor-owned utility companies across the state in 2024 in key performance areas that measure overall electric reliability:
Shortest Average Interruption Time
SAIDI stands for System Average Interruption Duration Index. This metric measures the average amount of time a customer is without power during a year, excluding hurricanes, and is considered the best overall way to measure the reliability of electric service in the industry. By this measure, OUC increased its reliability by 31.8% compared to the year prior. This makes OUC 14% more reliable than the next closest finisher.
faster outage restoration
CAIDI stands for Customer Average Interruption Duration Index. This metric represents the average time required to restore service when an outage does happen. Compared to 2023, OUC restored power 26.8% quicker after implementing operation enhancements to our grid. This makes OUC 25% faster than the next closest finisher at restoring outages.
