FMEA Lineman Competition Held Saturday
KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA – OUC—The Reliable One earned several awards during the 18th
Annual Florida Municipal Electric Association’s (FMEA) Florida
Lineman Competition held in Kissimmee this past weekend. The rodeo, as it’s commonly called, promotes best practices in line work and reinforces teamwork among municipal utilities for mutual aid in the event of a natural disaster, such as a hurricane.
Nick Rawlings and Chris Irvine, OUC line technicians, took first and third honors respectively in the apprentice comprehensive written exam, which covers topics such as CPR, safety issues, overhead distribution and transmission, and underground lines and equipment.
Additionally, OUC garnered a Safety Award for its continued commitment to safe working practices. The utility earned first place among utilities with 950,000 to 2.5 million man-hours worked and was rewarded for the most incident-free records.
