The Power To Save
IS IN YOUR HANDS

  • The Power To Save IS IN YOUR HANDS: How much energy did your home use this month? How much will your next utility bill be? The answers are easy once you know how to read your electric meter.

Reading your meter is simpler than you think — and it can help save you money every month. Checking a few times a week can tell you what appliances use the most energy, where your home may be wasting electricity and how your conservation efforts are adding up.

To learn how to read your meter — and how to save energy and water around the house — visit www.ouc.com or check out OUC Video on Demand on Central Florida Brighthouse channel 979.

  • The Power To Save IS IN YOUR HANDS: Think the only important part of your utility bill is the Total Due? Take a closer look and you’ll find that there’s a lot you can learn from your OUC bill.

There’s information on how your energy and water consumption may have changed over the year, your electric and water rates, city and county charges, convenient OUC payment options and much more. It’s a wealth of information, right at your fingertips each month.

To learn more about the information found on your bill — and how to save energy and water around the house — visit www.ouc.com or check out OUC Video on Demand on Central Florida Brighthouse channel 979.

  • The Power To Save IS IN YOUR HANDS: Sometimes it takes a little help to keep the lights on. Due to economic hardship or an unexpected emergency, we all may need assistance once in a while.

That’s why OUC created Project CARE, our utility payment assistance program that lets neighbors help neighbors to keep the lights lit and make the world a little brighter.

In fact, when you donate to Project CARE, OUC will match your donation with two dollars for every dollar you give. And those dollars add up — more than $1 million since Project CARE began in 1994.

To learn more about how you help, visit www.ouc.com. If you need assistance from Project CARE, contact Community Services by dialing 211.

  • The Power To Save IS IN YOUR HANDS: Any way you look at it, compact fluorescent bulbs are a bright idea. They give off the same amount of light as an incandescent bulb but use a fraction of the energy — as much as 75% less than traditional bulbs.

Those energy savings can also help you save money and protect the environment. In fact, each CFL bulb you use can save you more than $30 over a regular bulb, and those CFLs can save more than 2,000 times their weight in greenhouse gas emissions.

So change out your home’s five most often used lights with CFLs and take control of your home’s utility bill.

  • The Power To Save IS IN YOUR HANDS: When was the last time you changed your AC and heating system’s air filter? It takes less than five minutes, and a $5 investment can turn into big savings over time.

A dirty filter reduces air flow, makes your system work harder and wastes energy — and money. Changing your filter every month helps keep your system running smoothly and can significantly lower your home’s heating and cooling costs.

Want an easy reminder? Each month when you get your OUC bill, do you home a favor and change the filter.

  • The Power To Save IS IN YOUR HANDS: Now you have an excuse to put off doing your chores until tomorrow. Always wait until you have a full load before you run your dishwasher or washing machine. You’ll save water, energy — and money.

While you’re waiting, check the thermostat on your home’s hot water heater. Set the heater’s thermostat to 120º and you’ll have plenty of hot water without wasting energy. In fact, for every 10º you lower the temperature, you can save 3 to 5% in energy costs.
