KATIE PORTA ELECTED PRESIDENT
OF OUC GOVERNING BOARD

Porta Brings More than 25 Years of Community Service to Her New Role

ORLANDO – Katie Porta, a longtime leader in the Orlando community, was elected president of the governing board of OUC—The Reliable One on Tuesday. She succeeds Lonnie Bell as president.

“I’m really looking forward to serving as your president and to being a part of what is shaping up to be a pivotal year for OUC and all electric and water utilities in the State of Florida,” said Porta, who has served on the five-seat OUC board since May 2003.

For more than 25 years, Porta has served as president and CEO of Quest Inc., which provides services to individuals with disabilities. Quest is one of Central Florida's oldest and largest nonprofit organizations.

“Katie Porta is a respected leader in this community and she brings a wealth of business experience and perspective to her new role as president of the OUC board," said Ken Ksionek, OUC General Manager and CEO. “I look forward to her term and her leadership."

In addition to her work at Quest, Porta serves as president of the board of the Nonprofit Housing Roundtable of Central Florida, whose mission is to increase the supply of decent affordable housing. She also is a member of the CSI Board, which serves the developmentally disabled and seniors.

She has served on the boards of the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Florida and the Heart of Florida United Way. She is a graduate of Leadership Orlando, Leadership Central Florida, Leadership Florida and Leadership USA.

In its annual election of officers, OUC's governing board also named Tommy Boroughs first vice president and Maylen Dominguez Arlen second vice president.

OUC's five-member governing board, known as the Commission, is responsible for setting the utility's rates and operating policies. All Commissioners, with the exception of the Mayor of Orlando (an ex officio member), can serve up to two consecutive four-year terms.
They serve without compensation.

Established in 1923 by a special act of the Florida Legislature, OUC—The Reliable One is the second largest municipal utility in Florida. OUC provides electric and water services to more than 254,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties.
