OUC'S METER READING RECORD NEAR PERFECT
More Than 4 Million Meters Read With Overall Accuracy of 99.94
Percent
ORLANDO – When it comes to reading
meters, OUC—The Reliable One lives up to its name.
OUC's meter readers ended 2006 reading more than 4 million meters with an
accuracy rate of 99.94 percent.
The OUC governing board recently honored the utility's Meter Readers of the
Year for 2006.
In Orlando, the award went to David Roncaglione for reading 155,167 meters
with an accuracy of 99.98 percent. Jose Rodriguez read 120,725 meters with
an accuracy of 100 percent to win the award in St. Cloud for the sixth year
in a row.
To calculate accuracy, OUC subtracts the number of errors from the total
number of meters read. Errors are discovered when meters are re-read
following unusually high or low readings and/or computer analysis. These
errors are corrected by OUC before bills are mailed to customers.
In addition to accuracy, other factors considered in earning the annual
award include employee safety records, attendance, teamwork and proper meter
and field condition reporting.
“Our meter reading team is on the job 52 weeks a year, in all weather
conditions, to ensure that every customer receives an accurate bill each
month,” said Ken Ksionek, OUC General Manager and CEO.
On a typical day, an OUC meter reader walks an average of 10-12 miles and
reads more than 600 meters.
Established in 1923 by a special act of the Florida Legislature, OUC—The
Reliable One is the second largest municipal utility in Florida. OUC
provides electric and water services to more than 196,000 customers in
Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties.
