AGAIN, DATA SHOWS OUC IS MOST RELIABLE
Latest Public Service Commission Information Proves OUC Best in Florida
ORLANDO - For the fifth consecutive year, OUC—The Reliable One has lived up
to its name by providing the most reliable electric service in Florida.
In 2005 data recently released by Florida’s Public Service Commission, OUC
finished well ahead of Florida’s investor-owned utilities in key performance
areas that measure overall electric reliability.
-
L-Bar*: A fair way to measure utility performance regardless of size, OUC
restored power 88.6 percent faster than any other utility. The L-Bar represents
the average number of minutes a customer is out of power during an outage.

-
System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI)**: By this measure, OUC is
28.4 percent more reliable than the next closest finisher. SAIDI measures the
average amount of time a customer is without power during the course of a year.

By PSC rule, outages caused by named storms are not included in these
calculations. OUC maintains more than 2,300 miles of electric transmission and
distribution lines over its 375-square-mile service area.
“We are incredibly proud that, through the hard work and dedication of our
employees, OUC again has proved to be ‘The Reliable One,’ ” said General Manager
and CEO Ken Ksionek. “Going forward, OUC will continue our efforts to provide
customers the best electric service delivery performance in Florida.”
* L-Bar is measured by dividing the minutes of interruption by the total number
of outages.
** SAIDI is measured by dividing the sum of all customer minutes interrupted by
the total number of customers served.
Established in 1923 by a special act of the Florida Legislature, OUC—The
Reliable One is the second largest municipal utility in Florida. OUC provides
electric and water services to more than 196,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud
and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties. |
