Heston, Communications Manager Sheridan Becht | Erika Hodges MAYLEN DOMINGUEZ ARLEN JOINS OUC BOARD Election Fills Seat Vacated by Longtime OUC Commissioner Tico Perez ORLANDO – Maylen Dominguez Arlen has been elected to serve the unexpired term of Tico Perez on the governing board of the OUC—The Reliable One. Maylen Dominguez Arlen Perez served on the OUC board for 8 ½ years before resigning to serve on the state university system’s Board of Governors. The OUC Board nominated Dominguez Arlen at its May 10 meeting and the Orlando City Council confirmed the nomination May 15. Her term will expire Dec. 31, 2007. "Maylen’s experience in the Central Florida business area and her history of community involvement will be a great asset to OUC," said Lonnie Bell, OUC Board President. “I am confident she will represent our customers and stakeholders very well.” Dominguez Arlen is director of development and a building contractor with her family business, Homes by Carmen Dominguez. She is involved in land acquisition, design and development of commercial and residential projects. Additionally, Dominguez Arlen has worked with the University of Central Florida and the Florida Solar Energy Council to create innovative home designs that incorporate photovoltaic panels, cisterns that reuse rainwater and green roofs that aid in storm water retention. “I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with OUC on the important issues we face in our community,” Dominguez Arlen said. “We live in an extraordinary area, and I look forward to helping enhance the quality of life for OUC customers, the City of Orlando and Central Florida.” Dominguez Arlen earned a bachelor’s degree in Literature from Yale University and a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California. She is co-founder of the Orlando Film Festival and a director of the Lisa Merlin House, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a safe place for women and children with drug addictions. The OUC Commissioners are: Bell (President), Katie Porta (First Vice President), Tommy Boroughs (Immediate Past President), Dominguez Arlen and City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. Established in 1923 by a special act of the Florida Legislature, OUC—The Reliable One is the second largest municipal utility in Florida. OUC provides electric and water services to more than 196,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties.
