OUC PREPARING FOR HURRICANE WILMA

ORLANDO - This weekend OUC-The Reliable One will be engaging its hurricane preparedness plan and getting ready in the event that Hurricane Wilma strikes Central Florida or passes close enough to impact OUC's service area.

All of our electric and water crews that traveled to the Gulf Coast to assist in the Hurricane Katrina restoration have returned and are ready to go should the storm hit our region.

OUC already has contacted several other municipal utilities and contractors for potential restoration assistance. Three line crews from Georgia (21 linemen) are scheduled to arrive in Orlando on Sunday night prior to Hurricane Wilma's current projected impact.

These linemen will be on hand to assist in any local restoration efforts, if needed, and will be released to help other areas once OUC's hurricane work is complete.

To help facilitate media requests, the OUC Communications staff wants to remind media to address all calls to the media hotline number: 407.236.9655. Calling the hotline will provide direct access to the OUC Communications staff and enable quick and efficient responses to inquiries.

After hours and on weekends, calls will be forwarded automatically to a Communications staff member. Please update all phone list entries for reporters, assignment editors and producers to make this number the primary entry. Previous contact numbers for OUC Communications staff may no longer be active.

Established in 1923 by a special act of the Florida Legislature, OUC –The Reliable One is the second largest municipal utility in Florida.  OUC provides electric and water services to more than 196,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties.
