Coal Gasification Technology Power Plant

In October 2004, the U.S. Department of Energy selected the Orlando Utilities Commission – along with partner Southern Company – to build an advanced coal gasification facility in Central Florida as part of the department’s Clean Coal Power Initiative.

The proposed plant -- known as the Orlando Gasification Project (OGP) -- will be built at OUC’s Stanton Energy Center near Orlando and will gasify coal using the cleanest, most efficient coal-fired power technology in the world.

On Aug. 23, 2006, OUC commissioners voted to approve funding for the OGP.
