OUC Names Interim General Manager & CEO
Ksionek follows in Haven's Footsteps

ORLANDO  – OUC’s governing board today selected Kenneth P. Ksionek as the city-owned utility’s interim general manager and CEO.

Ksionek has served as vice president of OUC’s Energy Delivery Business Unit since 1995, managing the engineering, construction, maintenance and operation of OUC’s electric transmission and distribution systems. He has been with the company for 19 years

Today’s action is the first step in finding a successor for Robert C. “Bob” Haven, who died suddenly of natural causes Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004. Haven, who was 65, had been OUC’s general manager and CEO since July 1994.

“I am humbled to be following in Bob Haven’s footsteps,” Ksionek said. “Bob was a great leader, and I will concentrate on leading this company in a way that would make him proud. My goal is to keep OUC moving forward and to keep our senior management team on its well-established course.”

OUC’s governing board plans to conduct a national search for Haven’s permanent successor.

“It would be impossible to replace Bob Haven,” Tommy Boroughs, president of the board, said. “But we will be looking for someone who can carry the company forward much like Bob did, keeping a focus on service reliability, financial responsibility and maintaining competitive rates for our customers.”

The OUC board, known as the Commission, appointed a four-member committee to gather information for the search process and make suggestions to the Commission. The members of the committee are Commissioners Tommy Boroughs and Lonnie Bell, Vice President and General Counsel Thomas Tart and City of Orlando Chief of Staff Wayne Rich.

In the meantime, OUC will be led by Ksionek with the support of a strong, seasoned senior management team, Boroughs said. OUC senior management held its regularly scheduled staff meeting this morning. In light of Haven’s passing, OUC’s governing board has rescheduled its regularly monthly meeting from March 9 to March 23.

Ksionek began his career with OUC in 1985 as the Director of Construction for the Stanton Energy Center. After successful completion of that project, he was named Director of Capital Projects for the Electric Operations Department in 1986. He was promoted to Managing Director of Transmission and Distribution in 1989 and to Vice president six years later.

Prior to joining OUC, Ksionek was employed for 12 years by Gilbert Associates Inc., an architectural/engineering firm. He was involved in the construction management of several major power plant projects throughout the United States including Tampa Electric Company’s Big Bend Unit 4, Arizona Public Service Company’s West Phoenix Combined Cycle Station and Delmarva Power & Light Company’s Indian River Unit 4.

Ksionek earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin.

Established in 1923 and owned by the citizens of Orlando, OUC—The Reliable One provides electric and water services to more than 190,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties. OUC is the second-largest public power utility in Florida.
