Boroughs Elected President Of OUC's Governing Board

ORLANDO – Tommy Boroughs, a prominent attorney and community leader, was elected president of OUC's governing board. He succeeds attorney Tico Perez, who remains on the OUC board as immediate past president.

"It is a privilege to serve on this board," said Boroughs, who joined the OUC board, known as the Commission, in January 2001. "I promise to serve our customers, the citizens who own us, effectively and responsibly."

Boroughs, a partner with the law firm Holland & Knight, is an active member of the American Public Power Association (APPA) in Washington, D.C., which represents the nation's 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities. In 2003, Boroughs was named 2nd vice chair of the APPA's Policy Makers Council. The council promotes federal legislation that is important to public power systems, opposes harmful legislation and provides advice on other issues of importance to APPA. Boroughs will serve as the council's chair in 2006.

In addition, Boroughs is a member of the Florida Municipal Electric Association in Tallahassee and has been a key hands-on player with the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce, the Heart of Florida United Way and the Orange County Bar Association, among other organizations. At Holland & Knight, he specializes in real estate acquisition and land-use matters.

In its annual election of officers, OUC's governing board also named Lonnie Bell first vice president and Katie Porta second vice president.

Established in 1923 and owned by the citizens of Orlando, OUC—The Reliable One provides electric and water services to more than 190,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties. OUC is the second-largest public power utility in Florida.
