Center For Homeless Women & Children
Receives Financial Boost From OUC

ORLANDO (October 14, 2002)OUC—The Reliable One has presented $25,000 to the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida for its Women's Residential and Counseling Center, a program for women and their children in transition.

The money was raised during OUC's annual charity golf tournament, held October 5 at the North Shore Golf Club. More than 140 players participated, including OUC business partners and employees.

Robert H. Brown, president of the Coalition for the Homeless, thanked OUC and said the financial assistance was timely.

"If we could ever use the help, this is the year," Brown said, explaining that the number of homeless women and children has skyrocketed in recent months. On any given night, over 25 percent of the homeless shelter's 650 occupants are children, most of them under the age of seven, he said.

"We're glad to extend a helping hand to the Women's Residential and Counseling Center," said Tico Perez, president of OUC's governing board. "Slower economic conditions have forced many families out on the streets. Thankfully, the Coalition for the Homeless is there to help."

OUC—The Reliable One lives up to its name by providing the best record of electric reliability in the state of Florida and delivering high-quality, great-tasting drinking water to its customers. Established in 1923 and owned by the citizens of Orlando, OUC serves more than 190,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties.
