Arbor Day Foundation Honors OUC

ORLANDO (March 4, 2002)For the fourth consecutive year, OUC—The Reliable One has been named a Tree Line USA Utility by the National Arbor Day Foundation for its superior tree-care practices.

The award recognizes utilities that trim trees near power lines with exceptional care, provide annual tree-care training for employees and provide tree-education programs for the public.

“The commitment of these Tree Line USA Utilities to protect community trees while providing reliable service not only helps to provide beautiful trees for the future, but also results in long-term operational savings for the utility,” says John Rosenow, president of the National Arbor Day Foundation. The nonprofit group is dedicated to tree planting, conservation and environmental stewardship.

The city-owned OUC has developed a comprehensive tree management program that combines careful trimming practices with the use of growth regulators that “train” trees to grow around wires and retain more of their natural form.

As part of its neighborhood outreach program, OUC regularly mails tree-care letters and brochures to customers, further educating the public about the importance of proper tree-care practices.

“Professional tree care is a high priority for us, and we’re proud to be named a Tree Line USA Utility again this year,” says Bob Haven, CEO and general manager of OUC.

OUC was one of 82 utilities nationwide to win the foundation’s Tree Line USA award – and one of just three utilities in Florida.

OUC—The Reliable One provides electricity and water services to more than 190,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of Orange and Osceola counties.
