AWWA Honors OUC's Water Business Unit
Award Recognizes Local Utility's Excellent Safety Record

ORLANDO (January 3, 2002) – In recognition of its outstanding safety record, OUC's Water Business Unit has received an Award of Honor from the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

The honor acknowledges OUC's low frequency of injuries in comparison with other water and wastewater utilities, based on the total number of hours worked.

"The honor is a compliment to the field crews and supervisors in our water department who safely perform physically demanding work in all kinds of inclement weather," says Ray Scullian, OUC's director of risk management and safety.

The award was presented at a recent AWWA Florida Section conference in Kissimmee.

With 57,000 members in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the AWWA leads efforts to advance the science, technology, consumer awareness, management, conservation and government policies related to drinking water.

Owned by the City of Orlando, OUC—The Reliable One provides electricity and water to more than 190,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange County.
