Aside from his community service, Perez is active in Hispanic business circles, serving as a founding member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida. He has also been active with the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce for more than 13 years.

In January 2001, Perez was elected president of OUC’s five-member governing board. The city-owned utility provides electric and water services to more than 165,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange County.
