Downtown Group Honors OUCooling ORLANDO (May 4, 2000) – The Downtown Orlando Partnership has bestowed its highest honor, the Award of Excellence, on OUCooling’s innovative chilled water plant at 520 South Orange Avenue. DOP’s Award of Excellence is presented annually to projects that have achieved extraordinary results and made far-reaching contributions to downtown Orlando. "We’re thrilled that OUCooling is being recognized for improving the downtown area," said Craig Conner, general manager of OUCooling. "At this point, we’re really just getting started, and we expect to have a far broader presence in Orlando in the coming months and years." Opened in early 1999, OUCooling’s downtown chiller plant is already under contract to serve eight customers (CNL Center, Lincoln Tower, Embassy Suites Hotel, First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Pine St. building, Grand Bohemian Hotel, City Hall and OUC’s administration building). OUCooling is a partnership between OUC—The Reliable One and Trigen-Cinergy Solutions. The service helps businesses save time, money and resources by outsourcing the generation of chilled water for their air-conditioning systems. The 37-degree water that OUCooling circulates to commercial buildings passes through fan coils inside the buildings. Warmer air is blown over the fan coils, producing cool air that is sent through air-handling units to various parts of the buildings. The water is then cycled back to the OUCooling plant to repeat the chilling process. OUCooling is no stranger to industry awards. Last year the unique downtown project won three awards from Associated Builders & Contractors Inc., and earlier this year OUCooling was named the 2000 Engineering Project of the Year by the Engineering Association. OUCooling enjoyed the benefits of working with a number of outstanding vendors on the downtown project. Among them were Longwood-based mechanical contractor S.I. Goldman and The Trane Co., a worldwide manufacturer of energy-efficient heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems.
