OUCooling Inks Deal With Vistana
Chiller Plant Will Provide Air Conditioning To New Project

ORLANDO – OUCooling has secured a long-term contract to provide chiller service to a large-scale timeshare project being developed by Vistana Inc. in south Orange County.

Under the 20-year agreement, OUCooling will design, build, own and operate a chiller plant at the Vistana site, saving money for Vistana by reducing the capital costs associated with its air-conditioning needs. The timeshare developer will also avoid maintenance headaches and enjoy lower energy costs.

"This is a cost-effective, environmentally sound solution for Vistana," says Keith Rice, manager of OUCooling, a partnership between OUC—The Reliable One and Trigen-Cinergy Solutions.

The agreement with Vistana is a major step forward for OUCooling, marking its entrance into the fast-expanding tourist district around International Drive. "There is a lot of potential for OUCooling to branch out in that area by signing up hotels, convention centers, shopping malls and entertainment complexes," Rice says.

Launched in early 1999, OUCooling first built a chiller plant for the Lockheed Martin complex off Sand Lake Road. Soon thereafter, the venture built a "district cooling" plant in downtown Orlando, which presently is under contract to serve eight customers, including CNL Center, Lincoln Tower, First Presbyterian Church and the Embassy Suites Hotel.

OUCooling’s chiller plant for Vistana will have a cooling capacity of 900 tons during the initial stages of the timeshare project. The plant’s capacity is expected to grow to 3,000 tons as the property is completed over the next three years – enough to cool a thousand 2,000-square-foot homes.

Orlando-based Vistana Inc., a leading developer and operator of vacation ownership resorts, operates resorts in Florida, Arizona, Colorado, South Carolina and the Bahamas. The company is a subsidiary of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., one of the world’s largest hotel and leisure companies.

OUC—The Reliable One is a municipal utility owned by the City of Orlando. It provides electricity and water services to about 158,000 customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of Orange and Osceola counties.
