OUC also will give you specific tips on conserving electricity and water and offer details on the following OUC customer rebate programs (single-family homes only):

  • OUC will rebate up to $100 to upgrade existing attic insulation to R-19 or more
  • OUC will rebate up to $75 on your purchase of caulking, weather stripping, window tinting and/or solar screening (recommended Shading Factor .5 or better)
  • OUC will rebate up to $75 on repairs made to leaking ducts

Financed Insulation Program

Looking for a way to lower your electric bill? Want to become more energy-efficient? The answer is attic insulation, and OUC can help make it affordable.

Insulating you home can help you lower your energy costs and keep you comfy and cozy through all seasons. And if that's not enough incentive to insulate, here's more:

  • OUC's Finances Insulation Program provides 100 percent interest-free financing to insulate your attic to a minimum R-19 level

  • You could have up to two years to pay with no money down

  • A small monthly payment will be added to your utility bill

  • A rebate of $100 will be deducted from the financed amount

  • The maximum amount that can be financed is $600

  • To qualify for financing, you must have a satisfactory credit rating with OUC

This program is available to OUC residential electric customers only. You must have some type of electric heat and/or electric air-conditioning, and you must have completed a Residential Energy Survey. To sign up for this program or to schedule your free Residential Energy Survey, call the OUCustomer Connection at 407.423.9018.

Efficient Electric Heat Pump Program

You can save a bundle by replacing your old heating and cooling system with an energy-efficient electric heat pump. In fact, if you choose a heat pump with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 14 or higher, you could cut the cost of electricity significantly.

But, that's not all. In addition to what you'll save on your electric bill, OUC will kick in a rebate for your energy-conscious effort:

H E A T   P U M P   R E B A T E S
based on these efficiency ratings

(As of Jan. 1, 2006)

SEER 14 — $100
SEER 15 — $200
SEER 16 — $300

When selecting a heat pump:

  • Pick the highest efficiency available
  • Choose a SEER rating of 14 and above (the higher the SEER, the greater the efficiency...and the more you'll save — not only on rebates, but also on operating costs)
  • Discuss your decision with your air-conditioning contractor
  • Get several estimates to compare costs

When selecting a contractor:

  • Get referrals from friends, neighbors and co-workers, or call OUC for helpful information

  • Make sure the contractor is licensed and insured

  • Call the local building department to check if the contractor is licensed and registered to do business

  • Get at least three written estimates for installation or replacement

  • Find out or ask your contractor about equipment and labor warranties or extended warranties

  • Your contractor must obtain the necessary permits to do the job and must also make sure the installation is inspected

To qualify for a rebate, choose a qualified, licensed and insured air conditioning contractor for your installation or replacement. OUC will require proof of purchase or invoice documenting eligibility.

Please request an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) Form from your contractor and attach it to the invoice and rebate application. The ARI Form helps document the SEER rating of the heat pump. Random on-site verification may be performed as a requirement to incentive payment. A bill credit in the amount of the rebate will be applied to your account. Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing.

Federal Tax Credits

A tax credit can provide significant savings. It reduces the amount of income tax you have to pay. Unlike a deduction, which reduces the amount of income subject to tax, a tax credit directly reduces the tax itself. Find out which energy efficiency Federal Tax Credits you qualify for.
