OUC Crews Assessing Water Main Break in Downtown Orlando

PRECAUTIONARY WATER ADVISORY HAS BEEN LIFTED

April 14, 2016 – The precautionary boil water advisory issued by OUC—The Reliable One on Tuesday, April 12 to about 50 customers around the site of a water main break near Garland Avenue and State Road 50 has now been lifted.

Following the water main break Tuesday morning, affected customers were asked to boil water used for drinking or cooking as a safety precaution.

Water samples analyzed by OUC’s state-certified water quality laboratory over two consecutive days indicate that water being provided to the area is safe to drink, and the precautionary advisory has been allowed to expire.

BROKEN WATER MAIN REPAIRS NOW COMPLETE

Update as of 12:07 a.m.: OUC crews have completed repairs on the water main break, which occurred Tuesday morning at S.R. 50 and Garland Ave.

The precautionary boil-water advisory issued Tuesday will remain in effect for the following parameters until 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, or otherwise notified by OUC:

  • Marks St. on the North
  • West Concord St. on the South
  • Orange Ave. on the East
  • Lexington Ave. on the West

OUC will to continue to conduct water quality testing in the area until the precautionary water advisory is lifted. Customers experiencing water quality issues should report them by logging into myOUC or call OUC at 407-423-9018.

Customers in these areas may wish to boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice or coffee, brushing teeth and washing dishes for at least two minutes until this precautionary water advisory is lifted. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient.


WATER MAIN BREAK ISOLATED, CREWS CURRENTLY MAKING REPAIRS

Precautionary Boil-Water Advisory Not Yet Lifted

Update at 5:25 p.m.: OUC crews have isolated and begun repairs to a water main break, which occurred this morning near S.R. 50 and Garland Ave.

OUC continues to maintain safe operating pressure and is conducting additional water quality testing in the area as an ongoing precaution. Customers experiencing water quality issues should report them by logging into myOUC or call OUC at 407-423-9018.

The precautionary boil-water advisory issued earlier today will remain in effect for the following areas until 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, or otherwise notified by OUC:

  • Marks St. on the North
  • West Concord St. on the South
  • Orange Ave. on the East
  • Lexington Ave. on the West

OUC customers in affected areas should boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice or coffee, brushing teeth and washing dishes for at least two minutes until this precautionary water advisory is lifted. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. The water is safe for bathing.

PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ALERT ISSUED
FOR CERTAIN DOWNTOWN AREAS

Update at 1:35 p.m.: The Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) has issued a precautionary boil water alert for approximately 50 customers within the following parameters:

  • Marks St. to the North
  • West Concord St. to the South
  • Orange Ave. to the East
  • Lexington Ave. to the West

Customers in these areas may wish to boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice or coffee, brushing teeth and washing dishes for at least two minutes until this precautionary water advisory is lifted. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient.

The water main break – which occurred near S.R. 50 and Garland Ave. at approximately 10:00 this morning – is currently being isolated. Water has now returned to full pressure; however, some customers may see temporary fluctuations in water pressure as OUC crews test and repair affected pipes and valves.

OUC will provide further updates as they become available.

Update at 12:45 p.m.: OUC crews are isolating the water main break on the corner of State Road 50 and Garland Ave. Some customers may see temporary fluctuations in water pressure as we repair the pipes and valves.


Water main break

April 12, 2016: An Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) water main break – as a result of a contractor doing work in the area – has occurred at Garland Ave. and S.R. 50. The break happened at approximately 10:00 Tuesday morning.

OUC crews responded immediately after the break was detected to begin safely and quickly assessing and repairing the damage. The break is being isolated. Select customers did experience low water pressure for a short period of time. Water has now returned to full pressure.

OUC continues to assess the situation, and will provide further updates as they become available.
