An OUC representative will NEVER take your credit card or banking information over the phone and will NEVER instruct you to use a pre-paid card for payment.

OUC Sets Record All-Time Power Peak

ORLANDO – As temperatures climbed into the high 90s, OUC electric demand set a new all-time demand record Wednesday. Air conditioners working to cool homes and offices pushed demand by OUC customers in Orlando up to 1,202 Megawatts (MW) at 4:21 p.m. OUC’s all-time power peak of 1,191 MW was actually set in the middle of a cold-snap on January 11, 2010.

While OUC has adequate generating capacity, there is concern customer bills will reflect the extra power consumption – so customers are encouraged to take steps to conserve.

To help keep your electric bills down when the temperatures rise, OUC recommends that you:

  • Set your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher, although some customers may need to keep the temperature a little cooler. Each degree you raise the thermostat above 78 degrees will save 6 to 8 percent on the cooling portion of your bill.
  • Replace air filters monthly. 
  • Use shades, drapes and blinds to keep the sun and heat out. 
  • Use ceiling fans to feel cooler, but turn them off when you leave the room.
